A positive lockdown labour: River’s birth story
I know things can feel a struggle in lockdown but there are some real silver linings to it all too…
Robert usually works away, so typically he’s not here for chunks of time but with everything going on, he’s home. Our plan, post birth, was always to have two solid weeks at home – no visitors, just us. But actually the fact that it’s been extended is such a good thing and it feels like it’s doing River a world of good.
Of course there have been tough times and of course we’d love for our family and friends to be able to meet River - but that will all happen. Right now, it’s our time, just the three of us. Our time to bond, get into our groove, not having to shoehorn in a load of other stuff disrupting our rhythm. It’s easy to get caught up with everything and race around but actually just being in this little bubble and slowing things down is feeling really positive and a nice holiday from the world.
The health visitor six-week check was over FaceTime and the first check in was over the phone. The post-natal check is now being done at the same time as the immunisations to group those together. We’ve had virtual sessions with a number of other people including a lactation consultant. What I’m saying is, you’ve still got the support and expertise, you just have to all be a bit creative with it but you’re not on your own in this.
