We had unexplained infertility, so spent 3 years ‘trying’ with 6 rounds of Clomid and 1 round of IVF. At 7 weeks we were told we were pregnant with twins and were over the moon! Unfortunately at 21 weeks the babies were diagnosed with TTTS (Twin to Twin Transfusion syndrome) and after the surgery to try and correct it we lost one of our identical twin boys. Kit was born at 28 weeks after my waters broke at 24 weeks. After 8 weeks in the NICU we got to take our beautiful baby boy home! What a journey.

I am SO thankful for the supportive women I have met through HPHB even if we didn’t get to go to any of the classes due to his early arrival!

I had an emergency C section in hospital at 28 weeks and it was so much calmer than I expected. All the staff were calm and kept talking me through what they were doing. I felt very well looked after. Remarkably after 3 weeks I was nearly pain free and could get back to driving etc.

The whole thing was much better than I expected after major surgery.

We didn’t get to see Kit for quite a few hours but oh my goodness when we did it was incredible! I would like to say that the ‘jolt’ of love that people talk about took a little while for me and I think it’s important that people know that it’s all normal - everyone feels things differently and it’s OK.

After a C section everything is difficult! On the HPHB course, our partners have their own birth partner session on how to support us through pregnancy, birth and beyond and it’s so helpful - so get your partner to help with any of the lifting/bending and things you struggle to do. I milked this for as long as I could :-)

I have recommended the course and one friend has already signed up for the London classes!

Top Tips

  • Go with your gut.

  • Do not over Google things.

  • Do over buy on the bibs/muslins - you can’t have enough of these. Enjoy the baby cuddles, they don’t last long.

  • Wear leggings as often as you can for as long as you can.
