Who runs the classes?
Meet Sophie.
Sophie is one of the midwives that teaches our Uxbridge antenatal classes. Sophie has been a qualified midwife for 6 and a half years. She did her training at Bournemouth University.
Sophie has a background of high risk labour care, care of an antenatal case load and providing antenatal education and trauma informed care.
For the last 4 years Sophie has specialised in caring for women who have experienced loss or are journeying through another pregnancy after this. Within this role she has experience of creating birth preferences and plans for women with previous birth trauma and pregnancy loss.
Sophie has a passion for empowering positive births and ensuring women and birthing people have relevant information and education to allow them to make fully informed decisions around their care and understand why they are making those decisions.
A lot of the techniques Sophie uses during hypnobirthing teaching have been used to support women control anxiety and stress throughout their pregnancies with positive results. These techniques help to empower women to stay in control during moments of worry, stress or pain.
The sessions Sophie runs are a safe space to explore options available to women and birthing people based on the latest evidence available to help families make the right choices for them.
Sophie’s sessions are supportive and non-judgemental to help families feel confident and empowered in their birth journey.
How does this differ to NCT classes in Uxbridge?
The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.
The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals
Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Uxbridge are priced at £299, compared to £259 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. NCT classes in Uxbridge are held at St Helen’s College, Hillingdon, whereas our classes take place at the Crown and Treaty pub so you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates.
Our local community
Most people on our Uxbridge course are from Uxbridge. The course is also popular with people living neighbouring areas of Hillingdon, Hayes and West Drayton.
From walks in Denham Country Park, to hangouts in coffee shops and at each other’s houses, graduates from our Uxbridge antenatal classes are never short of things to do.
Is it worth it?
“Everything on this course is realistic, relevant and practical. It’s also connected us to a brilliant local community of other new parents who we still chat to every day. Definitely take this course!”
