Who runs the classes?

Meet Larissa.

Larissa is one of the midwives that teaches our Thorpe Bay classes.

Larissa qualified as a midwife in 2006 and has enjoyed a varied career working in all aspects of midwifery, consolidating this for many years as a community and then continuity of care team midwife. She is currently working in a secondment role as a diabetes midwife. She is a mum of two who loves to keep busy with regular exercise classes and travels with friends and family. She says "I am excited to welcome you onto the course. It's so rewarding to be a part of your journey into parenthood. I look forward to being there to help guide and support you."

How does this differ to NCT classes in Thorpe Bay?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Thorpe Bay are priced at £269, compared to £199 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. The NCT classes in Thorpe Bay take place at St Peter's Church, Westcliff and My Little House in Southend-on-Sea whereas our classes take place at a comfy and sociable venue where you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates in lovely surroundings.

Our local community

Most of the people coming on our Thorpe Bay course are from Thorpe Bay. The course is also popular with those living in neighbouring areas of Great and Little Wakering and Shoebury.

From walks along the beach to coffee meetings in the town centre and playdates at each other’s houses, graduates from our Thorpe Bay antenatal classes are never short of things to do together.

Is it worth it?

“Truly brilliant course. Couldn’t wish for better. Feel so much more empowered about birth and looking after baby having been on this course. The resources you’re given afterwards are great too. Excellent value for money! Thanks guys”
