Who runs the classes?

Meet Jess

Jess is one of the midwives that teaches our Southampton antenatal classes.

Jess graduated in 2018 from Kingston University, she has worked within both the community and hospital setting since qualifying. Her passions are supporting families with feeding in the first crucial stages, and supporting physiological birth. She loves being outdoors and exploring new countries (as she demonstrated by spending 2 years backpacking!), when she is in the country she loves walking, climbing and playing the piano.

She says 'I'm so excited to meet you all and help you on your journey to becoming parents. You will leave the course feeling confident and excited for the next chapter of your lives, it is a privilege to be there to help you prepare you for it!'

How does this differ to NCT classes in Southampton?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Southampton are priced at £269, compared to prices from £199 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. NCT classes in Southampton are held at St Mark’s Church centre whereas our classes take place at The Mayflower Village so you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates.

Our local Southampton community

Most people on our Southampton course are from Southampton. The course is also popular with people living neighbouring areas of Bitterne and Swaythling.

From walks along the Itchen and trips to SeaCity museum, to hangouts in the coffee shops and at each other’s houses, graduates from our Southampton antenatal classes are never short of things to do.

Is it worth it?

“I'm so glad we signed up for Happy Parents Happy Baby course! It was so informative and covered everything we needed to know. It also enabled us to digest the information from the in person sessions and then we were able to ask any questions with the experts the next day during the live online session. I liked that it also focused on helping us get to know others on the course so that we'd have a local support network of fellow parents-to-be. Our midwife course leader was fantastic, so friendly, knowledgeable and reassuring. Highly recommended!”
