Who runs the classes?

Meet Cara.

Cara is one of the midwives that teaches our Twickenham antenatal classes. Cara completed her midwifery training as a mature student at Kingston University and St George’s Hospital in 2019. Prior to this she worked for MacMillan Cancer Support delivering social support services. Cara says: “We are all so wonderfully different and childbirth is no exception. I’m really looking forward to teaching you on the HPHB course which goes above and beyond to recognise your individual choice. I’ll be providing you with lots of information and making sure that you feel absolutely supported in making the choices that are right for you. I want you to have the most positive pregnancy and childbirth experience possible, whilst sharing this with some other fabulous people… and having a laugh along the way.”

How does this differ to NCT classes in Richmond?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Richmond are priced at £299, compared to £259 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. NCT classes in Richmond take place at Kings House School whereas ours take place at The Cricketers pub where you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates.

Our local Richmond community

Most of the people coming on our Richmond course are from Richmond. The course is also popular with those living in neighbouring areas of Ham, Sheen and Kew.

From walks in Richmond Park, to coffees in the town centre and trips to Kew Gardens, graduates from our Richmond antenatal classes are never short of things to do together.

Is it worth it?

“As apprehensive 1st time parents we knew we wanted to attend an antenatal class. We are so happy we chose Happy Parents Happy Baby. The teaching material, our teacher (midwife) the location and our wonderful new group of friends really proves how fantastic this class was. We now feel ready to welcome our little one into the world and would recommend this class to anyone.”
