Who runs the classes?

Meet Anna.

Anna is one of the midwives that teaches our antenatal classes in Barnet. Anna trained at City University of London and qualified in 2015, she now works as a Clinical Nurse and Midwifery Lead. Anna has a comprehensive career across all sectors of maternity care, with a particular passion for working as a homebirth and stand alone birth centre midwife. These roles have allowed her to provide individualised, holistic patient centred care which she finds very rewarding. Anna is a mum to two little girls and in her spare time she is usually in a playground drinking a large coffee! She says "I am so excited to share this part of your journey with you, I love antenatal education and find that knowledge is empowering, I want to give you the tools to make informed decisions about your care. It can sometimes be overwhelming but there is so much support available and what a great way to meet others on the same journey!"

How does this differ to NCT classes in Barnet?

The reason NCT springs to mind first for many people when thinking about antenatal classes is because the classes have been around since the 1950s. For many decades they were the only form of antenatal classes available. This means many people believe that all antenatal classes are NCT classes, which is not the case.

The NCT is a charity and instructors complete a degree course to teach the classes. All Happy Parents Happy Baby instructors are midwives and doctors so have a degree but also thousands of hours of practical experience working in birth centres and hospitals.

Unlike NCT classes, our antenatal classes all include hypnobirthing and baby first aid at no extra cost. At the time of writing, NCT classes in Barnet are priced at £299, compared to £259 for Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes. The NCT classes in Barnet take place at Christ Church Barnet whereas our classes take place at a comfy and sociable venue where you can relax and make the most of socialising with your course mates in lovely surroundings.

Our local community

Most of the people coming on our Barnet course are from Barnet. The course is also popular with those living in neighbouring areas of Whetstone, Borehamwood and Shenley.

From walks in Hadley Woods to coffee meetings in town and playdates at each other’s houses, graduates from our Barnet antenatal classes are never short of things to do together.

Is it worth it?

“Really useful sessions on all things baby. The sessions themselves were a really good balance between educational, and giving you the opportunity to chat to the other parents in the group! There was also a tonne of online material for you to watch in detail as and when you need. I’ve no doubt come away knowing a lot more than I did before about my birth plan, labour and caring for a baby. But also come away with a support group for when we take those first steps into parenthood. I couldn’t recommend HPHB more!”
