Tell us about your family…
Hello. We are Hannah and George. Hannah is a leadership consultant and George is a partnerships manager. This is our first baby and we are completely obsessed with him. We took the Happy Parents Happy Baby antenatal classes in Crouch End.
How was your pregnancy?
I was really lucky to have a smooth pregnancy and for the most part, I really enjoyed it (although I don’t miss the effort it took to get out of bed). The HPHB really helped us mentally prepare, provided a safe space for all of our questions and allowed us to meet like-minded parents who we’ve become good friends with.
Where did you have your baby?
Whittington labour ward – the whole experience was fantastic.
How was your birth?
I had a really positive, natural birth. I was surprised at how quick it all happened but told myself regularly that this is what I’d been preparing for, it’s what my body is made to do. HPHB really helped George understand how he could support me too which was greatly appreciated – he kept me hydrated and reminded me of the breathing techniques we learned.
How did you keep comfortable?
Breathing – 5/5. Something to focus on.
Movement – 5/5. I walked a lot in the early stages of labour. Leaning on something or being on all fours felt better than sitting or lying during later stages.
Hydration – 4/5.
How did you feel when you first met your baby?
All of the emotions. It’s a feeling that’s hard to describe but utterly beautiful.
How were the early days with your baby?
I will cherish the first few days with our first child forever. Becoming a mum felt so special and after the HPHB course, I felt as confident as possible in that slightly scary newborn bubble.
What has been your top triumph?
Breastfeeding has been so much smoother than I expected – I love it!
What has been your top challenge?
Dealing with gas / wind – it can be really tough to see them struggle.
What has been your proudest moment?
Giving birth naturally with just a bit of gas and air.
One thing you weren’t expecting…
The breastfeeding sweats!
Any regrets?
Not asking to see my placenta.
How have your HPHB group supported you?
The community has been amazing! Sharing challenges, tips and sometimes just a bit of empathy has gone a long way.
Most useful hospital bag item…

Vouchers for Cook (or really any food).
What was your most useful gift?
Baby carrier.
One final tip for other expectant parents…
Embrace the process.
