Tell us about your family…
We are Sarah and Tom. We are parents to baby Olivia and our two indoor cats Yeva & Luna. We attended the course in Haywards Heath.
How was your pregnancy?
My pregnancy was a very lovely experience, being our first baby we had no idea what to expect, attending the HPHB antenatal classes really helped us both prepare for what was about to happen.
Where did you have your baby?
Princess Royal, Haywards Heath – absolutely amazing!
How was your birth?
I chose to have an elective C-section which HPHB really helped me decide especially whilst discussing birth options with other mummies to be.
How did you keep comfortable?
I was extremely anxious for my C-section but I found the breathing techniques really helped calm me down. We also prepared a birth playlist which we played whilst in theatre which made the whole experience even nicer which meant our baby girl was born to one of our favourite songs.
How did you feel when you first met your baby?
Pure amazement and a love that I’ve never felt before.
How were the early days with your baby?
The first few days of being a new parent definitely took some navigating but having attended HPHB we were already equipped with knowledge surrounding safe sleeping which we found extremely beneficial.
What has been your top triumph?
100% breastfeeding!
What has been your top challenge?
I have been exclusively breastfeeding which has been a real challenge at times but also very rewarding and a lovely bonding experience.
What has been your proudest moment?
That first smile!
One thing you weren’t expecting…
How much newborns sleep! Especially in those first few days! Also how many nappies you go through!
Any regrets?
None whatsoever! Maybe not having a baby sooner haha!
How have your HPHB group supported you?
We have a lovely group of HPHB girls where we meet up frequently. We also have a WhatsApp group which has been lovely to all share experiences etc.
Most useful hospital bag item…
Definitely a comfy nightdress and all the snacks!
What was your best post-birth treat?
It’s got to be a glass of Prosecco with a cheese board and all the meats!
Most useful baby item…
There’s so many but the bouncer has saved us a few times whilst eating dinner, it instantly soothes baby!
What was your most useful gift?
Nipple shields have been a life saver for our baby who has trouble latching!
One final tip for other expectant parents…
Enjoy every moment as best believe people who say it goes quick as it really does!
