A positive home birth: Elara’s birth story

My pregnancy was wonderful! I think that I was really lucky during it, I had no morning sickness and no real issues. We had a baby moon in Santorini when I was pregnant and I climbed a ridiculous amount of stairs and stayed really active throughout. HPHB was able to help me be more informed and connected me with new mother's who shared the same journey and timeline on pregnancy!

I had a really lovely home birth with the Homerton midwife team. I was in labour for 12 hours with my mom, my husband and two midwives. We tried to birth in the birthing pool but it slowed down the progress so I birthed right outside of it in our living room.

The first moment that I saw my baby I was in love! She was such a squishy little thing and I was in awe to meet her. But then I hadn't eaten in such a long time I was going to pass out so I had to go rest for a bit.

The first few days with our baby was extremely exhausting. While it was very cool to start to get to know her, we were extremely lucky to have help.

I would definitely recommend the Happy Parents Happy Baby course. It's really informative and helpful to have real people standing in front of you to ask questions and give guidance. Real faces are always more assuring than googling things. I also really love the friends we have made from the course. We meet up all the time.

Top Tips:

  • Get as much rest as you possibly can!

  • Open communication with your partner is always key as well.

  • Don't bottle up your feelings inside.
